Harnessing Renewable Resources for 10MW of Clean Energy
CLEAResult is very proud to announce that NV Energy's RenewableGenerations program recently surpassed 10 megawatts of installed renewable energy in Nevada. Implemented by a partnership between CLEAResult and Burton Consulting, RenewableGenerations is one of the country's largest renewable energy programs. It provides education and cash rebates for NV Energy residential, commercial, institutional and agricultural customers who install solar, wind and hydroelectric energy systems on their properties.
Since beginning in 2004, the program has paid more than $41 million in incentives for over 1,000 renewable energy projects, helping establish Nevada as first in the nation for installed solar energy per capita1. And since some program categories have received enough applications to achieve 11 years' worth of program goals, that trend looks likely to continue.
The program is mandated by the state of Nevada's requirement for a significant share of renewable energy to be available by 2015. The program's success is attributed to several key factors; its program design, effective targeted marketing, the release of large reservation capacities and a robust educational campaign, educating rate payers on the launch of the new capacity. By design, every program applicant is required to have a contract with a solar installation contractor to receive a reservation from the program. While program staff expected a solid response to the opening of applications on April 21, 2010, no one could have predicted the avalanche of applications that followed. Within six hours, more than 1,000 customers applied for nearly 400 percent of the program's rebate capacity. The program's progressive design and release of large reservation capacities was product of the collaboration between NV Energy, CLEAResult, Burton Consulting, and the program's contractors and the PUCN representatives.
The program team is pleased with the results of the efforts to date and looks forward to hitting the 15 MW mark.
