Here at CLEAResult, October isn’t all pumpkin spice and Halloween preparations. For us, October is Energy Action Month, first and foremost. A month-long celebration of all things energy-related, and culminating in our annual Energy Forum conference. Now that October has come to a close, we’re looking back on the Energy Action Month that was.
Decoding the Jargon
If you’ve been keeping up with our Twitter feed, you know that we posted one new energy term every day during Energy Action Month in an effort to familiarize our audiences with some of the more arcane terminology in our industry. One word that resonated with individuals was energy use intensity, or EUI. EUI is a key metric that expresses a building’s energy use as a function of its size or other characteristics.
Another term that attracted a great deal of engagement was AMI. AMI refers to advanced metering infrastructure, an integrated system of smart meters, communication networks and data management systems that enables two-way communications between utilities and their customers. With the evolution of the internet of things, we are starting to see a lot more of these integrated systems in our homes. The Amazon Echo smart speaker is a good example of this. It serves as a hub that enables two-way communication between a homeowner and connected devices such as smart thermostats, televisions, smart phones and others.
Looking Back: CSR Report & Community Based Distribution
At CLEAResult, our mission is to change the way people use energy. It may be a short statement, but our ambition—especially when applied to the impact we can have on our clients, people, the communities in which we operate and the planet at large—is not to be underestimated. For example, during Energy Action Month we debuted two important new elements of our business: The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report and our Community-Based Distribution Program.
Our CSR report illustrated what we achieved in 2016 in three key areas: people, planet and performance. It also establishes our goals for 2017. You can read all about the report, and download a copy for yourself here.
On the external side, we've found that low to middle income customers often have the greatest opportunity for energy savings, but can be the most challenging audience segment for utility providers to reach. Our Community-Based Distribution Program focuses on putting energy-efficient products directly into the hands of those who need them most. Find out more about the service line here.
Looking Forward: CREF17
Our CLEAResult Energy Forum event takes place each year during Energy Action Month. With over 150 registrants, three keynote speakers, 18 diverse breakout sessions and two evening events, our annual conference was a fantastic opportunity for energy professionals to network, learn and share ideas about the future of our business. Dealing with a wide range of topics, from customer loyalty programs to the connected home, we explored solutions for empowering energy customers, discussed emerging trends in regulations and business models, and prepared for the future of our rapidly changing industry. We learned a great deal and made a number of new connections at Energy Forum. Stay tuned for more news, insights and thought leadership gleaned from the event.
Like our Energy Forum, Energy Action Month gives us an opportunity to highlight our knowledge base, share best practices and engage directly with our audiences. Moving forward, let’s put energy into action for the remainder of 2017 and into the new year!
