Alliant Energy and CLEAResult Slated to Hit Milestone of 150,000 Recycled Appliances

20-Year Partnership Yields Customer Savings and Landfill Diversion

AUSTIN, Texas (July 12, 2018) – CLEAResult, a leader in designing and implementing technology-enabled energy efficiency and demand side management programs for utilities, recently announced, through partnership with Alliant Energy, approaching a significant milestone of recycling 150,000 outdated appliances by the end of 2018. The program promotes the removal and recycling of inefficient, energy-hungry appliances to reduce the future need for more electric grid power and ultimately lower customer energy bills.

CLEAResult joined forces with Alliant Energy in 1998 to develop and implement the residential appliance program, which provides Alliant Energy’s customers with an immediate rebate of up to $50 with no appliance purchase required. The program works by allowing customers to simply schedule a pickup of their antiquated appliance and then receive payment upon the arrival of the program contractor. The appliance is hauled away and broken down with 95% of the parts getting recycled and only 5% sent to the landfill.

“Championing incentive programs like this is crucial to providing consistent, outstanding service to energy customers,” said Aziz Virani, CEO at CLEAResult. “The immediate rebate and long-term energy bill savings prioritize the customer needs, while the repurposing of appliance materials and long-term energy savings positively impact the environment - a true win-win situation.”

This Alliant Energy appliance recycling program is available to Alliant Energy’s electric customers across Iowa. The key appliances targeted by the program are refrigerators and freezers, which can pull a substantial amount of power if they are running inefficiently and result in costly electric bills.

“As this program enters its 20th year, we look forward to hitting a milestone of recycling 150,000 appliances,” says Anne Carter, Alliant Energy’s director of energy efficiency, “When that happens we will have prevented 500,000 tons of carbon from entering the atmosphere. That’s the same as 100,000 fewer cars on our highways in a given year.”
