Don't miss Episode 2 of the Flexible Grid Technologies series: The Case for CHP

The electric grid is changing fast. Demand is reaching record levels, reliable, dispatchable power plants are retiring, and the pressure on utilities and grid operators to find flexible, dependable distributed energy resources has never been greater. If you work in energy, utilities, industrial operations, or policy, this is a conversation you need to be a part of.

CLEAResult Energetics is hosting Episode 2 of our Flexible Grid Technologies webinar series on July 22, 2026, and registration is now open.

What we’ll discuss – unlocking the potential of CHP

This episode focuses on combined heat and power (CHP), a proven cogeneration technology that has powered industrial and commercial facilities for decades. There is over 81 gigawatts of installed capacity across the country, yet more than 40% of this is not being utilized as a grid flexibility or demand response resource. That is a massive untapped opportunity in the middle of a grid modernization crisis.

Our panel of industry experts will explore why that gap exists, what barriers stand in the way, and what it will take to unlock CHP as a real dispatchable grid reliability and flexibility asset.

Who should attend – is this you?

This webinar is designed for energy professionals who want to look beyond the headlines and dig deeper into topic of CHP. If any of the following describes you, this session will be worth your time:

  • You work at or with a utility and are focused on grid reliability, demand response, or distributed energy resource planning
  • You work in industrial energy, manufacturing, or facility management and want to understand how CHP fits into the evolving grid modernization landscape
  • You are in energy policy or advocacy and want to hear the case being made by leading voices in the field
  • You are in business development or consulting and want to stay ahead of where the distributed energy and industrial decarbonization market is heading
  • You are involved in electrification planning and want to understand how dispatchable resources like CHP fit into the broader energy mix

Who we’ll hear from – one topic from three viewpoints

The panel offers three distinct perspectives on this vital subject, so you get the full picture.

  • David Gardiner, Executive Director of the CHP Alliance and President of David Gardiner and Associates, will give us the national policy and advocacy perspective. With a background that includes serving as Executive Director of the White House Climate Change Task Force and Assistant Administrator for Policy at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, David understands what it takes to move a distributed energy technology from the margins to the mainstream.
  • Bob Gemmer, Subject Matter Expert at CLEAResult Energetics, comes with over 40 years of hands-on experience in industrial energy efficiency, cogeneration, and CHP systems, including more than 22 years at the U.S. Department of Energy. Bob is one of the most recognized experts in CHP deployment, demand response, and grid integration in the country.
  • Samuel Gage, Ph.D., Program Manager and Strategic Analyst at CLEAResult Energetics, brings more than 10 years of experience in industrial decarbonization, energy efficiency, and emerging technology deployment. Sam has led grid modernization and electrification initiatives for the U.S. Department of Energy, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, utilities, and state agencies, helping organizations translate complex technical challenges into actionable strategies.

The session will be moderated by Kiran Srivastava, Senior Director at CLEAResult Energetics and moderator of this Flexible Grid Technologies Series.

What you will walk away with

This is not a general overview of CHP. This is a focused, expert-driven conversation designed to answer the questions energy professionals are actually asking right now:

  • Why is CHP’s grid flexibility and demand response potential still being left on the table?
  • What are the real barriers to broader CHP and distributed energy resource deployment and who owns fixing them?
  • What does a well-designed utility CHP and grid modernization program actually look like?
  • How does CHP compare to other distributed energy resources as a dispatchable grid flexibility tool?
  • What needs to change at the policy, technical, and utility program level to unlock CHP as a grid asset?

There will also be a live audience Q&A, so you can bring your own questions and discussion points directly to the panel.
